A Year in Review: Your Health, Your Triumphs, Your Next Steps
Good afternoon!
As we approach the end of the year, there’s a unique energy in the air—a chance to pause, reflect, and either continue the same course or take a new direction. Reflection is a powerful tool, not just for reminiscing but for unlocking insights that can shape a healthier, more vibrant future. Today, let’s take a moment to flip through the pages of this past year and celebrate the wins, the losses and everything in-between!
The Power of Reflection
In the hustle of life, we often overlook how much we’ve accomplished. Reflection helps us take a step back and objectively look at where we are. It’s not about judgment; it’s about awareness. Reflecting gives you an opportunity to learn a lot about yourself.
Acknowledge growth
This allows you to recognize your progress, celebrate successes, foster a sense of accomplishment and boosts motivation.
Learn from past experiences
The challenges and setbacks of the past year hold valuable lessons. Reflection helps you identify patterns, habits, or decisions that didn’t work and highlights what did. This helps repeating mistakes and helps equip yourself with strategies to achieve your goals.
Clarify priorities
Life evolves, and so do your values and priorities. This process ensures that the goals you set align with your current values, making them more meaningful and sustainable.
Provide a foundation for goal setting
By understanding where you’ve been, you can set realistic, actionable goals that build on your past achievements and address areas for improvement.
Create intentionality, gratitude, and positivity
Reflection bridges the gap between where you’ve been and where you want to go. It also encourages gratitude for the opportunities, relationships, and moments that enriched your life. Fostering a positive mindset, which is crucial when embarking on the path to achieving new goals.
Let’s Look Back Together
To make the most of this reflection, I’ve created an activity to help you dive in. Grab a notebook or open a fresh page on your device. Don’t overthink it—this is just for you.
Here are some prompts to guide your reflection:
Biggest Health and Wellness Achievement
What accomplishment are you most proud of this year? Maybe you finally stuck to a morning stretch routine, said goodbye to the sugary snacks, or discovered the joy of long walks. Write it down and let yourself feel the pride!Areas for Improvement
What didn’t go quite as planned? Did you set goals that slipped through the cracks or struggle with staying consistent? That’s okay! Identifying these areas helps us understand where to focus moving forward.Challenges Faced and Overcome
What obstacles stood in your way, and how did you rise above them? Whether it was finding time for self-care amidst a busy schedule or recovering from an injury. Your resilience is worth celebrating, write down how you overcame the challenges.
Habits and Actions That Brought You Joy
Reflect on the habits or routines that genuinely lit up your days. Was it cooking nourishing meals, practicing mindfulness, or booking that regular massage? These are the golden nuggets you want to hold onto to build new habits in the next year!
What’s Next?
Next week, we’ll shift gears and focus on creating a vision for your future self—one filled with purpose, health, and joy. For now, keep your reflections close, and consider sharing a highlight or two with a friend or loved one. When we share our stories, we often find new inspiration and connection. Remember, the healthiest versions of ourselves are built one small, intentional step at a time. So here’s to honoring the past year and getting ready to step boldly into the next one!
Until next week!
In health,
Dr. Wesley
P.S. As you look back, take a moment to thank yourself. It’s easy to focus on what we didn’t do, but every effort adds up. You showed up for yourself this year, and that matters.
